New Lodge, Nazca, Peru

New Lodge, Nazca, Peru

This competition entry responds to the need for a lodge hovering above the lines drawn on the plains of Nazca Peru. The combination observatory platform and lodge allows visitors respite in the hot desert sun to see the manmade phenomenon that has baffled historians. The design creates a sloped steel tower suspended by cables and a compression ring. The lodge offices are at the base, the bedrooms are in the center and the dining and viewing rooms are on the top. The sail protects the outdoor spaces from the harsh sun. Inclined elevators serve the upper floors. Unbuilt fantasy; budget unlimited.
