EF DORMITORY EXPANSION, TARRYTOWN NY We completed the conversion of the ground floor of Ursula Hall to more dormitory rooms. The floor provides the campus with its first ADA compliant bedrooms and bathrooms. The project also gives the campus its first air conditioned dorm rooms with extremely energy efficent units. The units allow the room temperature to be set individually and controlled by a central management computer. To provide better security and smaller windows, we carefull matched the exterior brickwork. Work continues on the upper floors to finalized a campuswide dormitory sprinkler program and upgrad bathrooms and finishes for the existing dorm rooms.
VILLA MARIA SCHOOL, STAMFORD CT This summer we completed more classrooms as part of the master plan for the ever growing school. (Villa Maria Education Center is now the Villa Maria School!) Earlier in the year the school got permission to expand their enrollment.
SHORE UNDER CONSTRUCTION After some legal issues regarding the town and the county, construciton has finally started on the two-unit low income house in Ardsley. SHORE (Sheltering the Homeless is Our Responsibily) is a not-for-profit organization which provides homes and counseling for the homeless. Their housing program places people in rental properties that SHORE creates. Through measured subsidy and counseling the situations are so stable that most tenants stay in the unit for many years. In fact, few have left and they have been providing units for over 10 years! The properties are operated by the Housing Action Council.
As a coincidence, Michael was a volunteer overnight supervisor and driver for SHORE's emergency shelters in the mid 1980s when he lived in White Plains. (A short story based on his experiences appears on the articles page.) Molinelli Architects designed the building to fit into the local vernacular architecture. It replaces an ill-sited abandoned building too deteriorated to save. To find out more about SHORE and donate to their cause write to SHORE PO Box 814 White Plains NY 10602.
MORE EF IN TARRYTOWN We're doing more work for EF. We just completed the design drawings for two dormitory expansions for Gerard Hall and Ursula Hall. And we were just commissioned to design the renovation for the Science Hall for new classrooms and science labs. The picture below is the custom reception desk in Rita Hall.
